He was the first American to win medals at every level of national and international competition, Bart Conner is America's most decorated male gymnast. Bart’s storied career began at the University of Oklahoma in the 1970s. Bart was a two time All-American for the Sooners. In 1977 he finished second at the American Cup and in 1979 earned a Gold Medal on the Parallel Bars and a Bronze for being a member of the Bronze Medal U.S. team. In the 1979 World Gymnastics Championships he placed first in the Parallel Bars. He was also the All-Around National Champion that same year. Bart was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team that boycotted the Games. That did not dampen his desire to compete. In the 1980 American Cup he took a close second the Kurt Thomas. Bart was the All-Around winner of the 1982 McDonald's American Cup and was victorious in the Parallel Bars. Despite struggling at the 1983 World Gymnastics Championships, Bart was ready for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The U.S. men’s team dominated the games earning Gold and Bart collected his own Gold in the Parallel Bars.
