In brief Andrea Mitchell has been the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent for NBC News since November 1994.

Fee Range:

She reports on evolving foreign policy issues in the United States and abroad for all NBC News broadcasts, including "Nightly News with Tom Brokaw," "Today" and for MSNBC. Most recently, she has been traveling with Secretary of State Colin Powell on his peace mission in the Middle East. Before her current position, Mitchell was NBC News' Chief White House correspondent, where she covered Bill Clinton during the 1992 Presidential campaign and was named to the White House post after Clinton's inauguration. From December 1988 to January 1993, Mitchell was chief congressional correspondent. During that time, she played a major role reporting on the budget, the savings and loan bailout, the Keating Five, the Clarence Thomas hearings and other legislative issues. She also served as a regular political analyst on "Today." Between 1981 and 1988, Mitchell covered the White House for NBC News, reporting on a variety of noteworthy developments, including arms control, the budget, tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She traveled extensively with President Reagan and reported from a multitude of international locations, including Moscow, where the summit meeting between Reagan and Soviet Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev took place. Over the years, Mitchell has appeared on "Meet the Press" as a panelist and an occasional host. Mitchell was also one of NBC News' key correspondents covering the 1988 Presidential race. At the 1988 Republican National Convention, she made a timely scoop, beating both the competition and George Bush with the announcement of the selection of Dan Quayle as the Republican vice-presidential candidate. Earlier, she covered Reagan's campaign during the 1984 political season, and, in the fall of 1980, she covered the re-election campaign of Vice President Walter Mondale. Mitchell joined NBC News in August 1978 as a correspondent based in Washington D.C., where she covered the Federal regulatory agencies and general assignment reporting.
