In brief What’s ahead for the economy? What’s coming next from Washington? The stock market—time to sell or buy?

Fee Range:

As the business correspondent for the “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather,” Ray Brady daily asks—and gets the answers to—questions like that. The answers come from cabinet members and other high government officials, businessmen, economists and financiers.

Brady’s economic reporting has taken him all over the world—covering the financial impact of the fall of then Berlin Wall, the rise of new “science cities” in Japan and the volatile mix of oil and politics in the Middle East.

He brings unusual depth to his reporting because of his extensive background in economics and journalism. He was one of three executive editors who brought Forbes Magazine to its present eminence; he has been Associate Editor of Barrons, and as Editor of Dun’s Review, the business publication of Dun’s Review, he doubled the circulation of the magazine.

Brady won a coveted “Emmy” From the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his coverage of the recession of the early 1980s—and for accurately predicting the end of that recession.

Realizing that before manufacturers could start up their production lines, they would first have to make sure they had boxes and cartons. Checking with box companies, Brady found that, yes, orders were up – and he went on the air with the story that the recession was over.

In the last recession Brady prepared a series called “The Money Crunch” that for two years, giving financial advise to enable viewers to stretch their incomes. The series drew more mail that any series since Charles Kuralt’s “On the Road.”

While he appears primarily on the “CBS Evening News,” Brady also appears on other CBS shows, including “Sunday Morning” where he often chats about economic trends with Charles Osgood. He is heard on radio as well, and has written extensively for publications as varied as The New York Times, Town and Country, and Readers Digest.

He has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including a black tie dinner attended by journalists and leading financiers at which the New York Financial Writers Association honored him for significant contributions to financial journalism.
